Date: April 3, 2006
Location: YMCA Clifton Park
Present: Spencer Raggio (Vice
President), Becky Bonn (Secretary), Rex Moon (Treasurer), George
Painter, Rebecca Stanley, Ron Byrne, BJ Henry
Meeting Called to Order at 6:45PM
Spencer Raggio welcomed
everyone. Need to accept minutes from March 2006. In reviewing we decided
to add our Sponsors names to the Sponsors page of the website: Stewarts,
The Sagamore, the Corinthians, West Marine and Yankee Yacht. Rex motioned
to accept and Spencer seconded the motion.
Boats:
The first boat workday was a success. Martins were rigged, pictures were
taken and a list of items needed and repaired was compiled. Running rigging
will be set consistently on all the boats and they will all be labeled
and lines will be color-coded. Most items will be purchased through Steve
Alvey; some will be bought direct from Abbot Boats at cost. Other items
have been ordered at Yankee Yacht. A spare set of halyards was purchased
as well.
Spencer investigated the rub rails on the boats to see if they could be swapped out to all look the same. The new style is installed with epoxy and cost $300 each. The old ones are screwed on. The new ones are not needed at this time.
George mentioned that the Pavilion would, in time, have a lift system installed to hoist the Martins and Rainbows. This will enable some repairs on-site, such as repairing broken tiller pins.
A gantry, a tripod-style keel lift, at a cost of $300, was motioned for approval to purchase by Ron and seconded by BJ. Everyone was in favor. This lift is interchangeable among the boats and will be useful in case of emergencies such as when #74’s keel lift line broke. (A replacement line has been ordered for #74).
Spencer also looked into a new jib system – a traveler and jib furler = $400.00. With the current jib boom sailors have trouble controlling the leech of the sail and it interferes with the spinnaker. The new jib system allows better sail control, sail shape and will be great when Y-Knot sailors start using spinnakers. When the opportunity arises it will be looked at more closely.
Scheduling:
Some changes in these seasons’ dates were discussed at the last meeting.
The confirmed changes are as follows:
Saturday, July 15 has now been changed to Sunday, July 23
Saturday, September 23 has now been changed to Sunday, September 24
Maryellen will need to update her draft for Training Day and Spencer will update the website.
Training Day is the same day as the last day of the Learn to Sail classes. The hope is to team the Learn to Sail instructors up with the Volunteers near the end of the day. Rex thinks we need to have a breakout for volunteers who want to be companions. Rex volunteered to lead that session. Volunteer form was handed out and some repetition was noted. Rex will fine-tune and send a revised copy to the Board.
Clinics will start at 12:30pm – No lunch will be served. There will be a chalk talk at the end of the clinic and dinner will be served afterwards around 5:00 – 5:30pm. A “What to Expect” email should be sent to Sailors/Volunteers registered prior to each clinic.
In regards to registering for a clinic it was decided that the number of volunteers coming would enable us to know how many sailors can be accommodated. If sailors do not show up volunteers will be able to sail.
Chowderfest Regatta is Sunday, May 28. Need to find out who is going to sail our six Martins. Rebecca is going to check with Burlington and the Canadians to see if there is interest in coming. The camp will make sure there are sleeping quarters available.
Next meeting will be 6PM, Wednesday, May 3rd at the Clifton Park YMCA.
Meeting adjourned 8:40PM
