Ron Byrne, Bill Ranney. Colin Ranney, David McComb, Paul Sheldon (guest,
committee member)
Approval of Jan 12 minutes
Amendments proposed as follows:
- Mike Peluso is chair of Membership committee
- Colin Ranney is not on Program Committee
- Colin is on Publicity committee
- Motion to accept minutes as amended: Spencer, Seconded by Ron
- Minutes accepted as amended
- Discussion of Clinic dates:
- George will check clinic dates against camp calendar.
- Committee reports:
- Bylaws Committee: Rebecca Stanley
- The committee will meet with George for final review and email final draft to Board
before 4/13 meeting. Final approval will be voted on at 4/13 meeting.
- Discussion:
- • Mike P questioned change of Executive Committee. George
suggested looking at YMCA system. New Board members can come on
only to replace a person or add up to 20. Board members have 3 year
terms, they can have 3 3-year terms. Then they rotate off for one year.
George will provide a copy of the YMCA bylaws for comparison.
- • Discussion
of succession — VP assuming presidency — this can happen but is
not a "contract."
- • Discussion of board membership
- • Final email list will be created.
- • Rob Davies and Paul Sheldon
suggested as new members
- Membership Committee: Mike passed out
suggested membership levels. A membership campaign will be developed
by the committee and emailed to exec board prior to the next meeting.
- >Regatta Committee: Spencer
- Regatta is scheduled for Oct 11-13, Columbus Day
weekend. Suggested a 3-day event since Monday is holiday. Looking
into setting up a rotation to avoid having two fleets and the big
switch at lunch.
- Looking into docks, volunteers, accessibility in the area, advertising
in Lake George Mirror
- >Weekend will be Chingachgook's 90th
anniversary. There is a boat cruise scheduled on Saturday from 1-4
on the Defiance or Horicon. George will look into boat accessibility
and loading from the west dock.
- The Lodge will be reserved for Y-Knot
- Publicity: Bill Ranney reported
- Adirondack Living show on April 18 in Saratoga City Center.
Planning to bring a boat and set it up inside. Web site has been
set up by Spencer at www.yknotsailing.org
- We need a list of where we can link to from other DSA
- Fundraising: Rebecca
- Committee will be meeting the following week.
Exploring Americaid, rotary, fundraising letters. Need to do
thanks yous to sponsors from 2002.
- Program Committee: Steve Mintz reported
- Looking into format of clinics, organizing volunteers
and instructing them, ensuring they are qualified for various roles. A
document will be prepared explaining what sailors can expect from
being part of Y-Knot. Cards were suggested for Y-Knot members and
a Handbook for volunteers suggested. Instruction for sailors.
- Discussion about program committee being responsible for equipment
- Subcommittees suggested include: instruction
and teaching, volunteers and recruiting. logistics and
equipment. Rebecca will send Steve some email addresses for sources
- General:
- If any committee is meeting, everyone should be told so they
can attend if they wish.
- Finance: Ron
- Goal is to get finances more organized. Committee is looking
at realistic costs, looking at charter experiences. Y-Knot started
year with $2164. Asking Board of Managers to approve budget of $12,000.
- New Business
- Benefits of Martin16 class membership,
Suggested the board check Martin 16 web site
- M16 North Americans will be held in St Petersburg
FL March 27-30.
- Disabled midwinters sailing clinics will be March 25-26.
- Syracuse area disabled skiing program ARISE interested in
starting sailing this summer
- Additional clinic scheduled for July
12, bringing total to 8 clinics 1 regatta.
- At next meeting we will adopt the budget and bylaws
